COMPETITION GOALS
Identify and promote interior design excellence on the basis of:
- Innovation, creativity and problem-solving
- Visual and written communication
- Execution of a design concept
- Research
- Presentation and articulation of ideas
PROJECT OVERVIEW
As designers, we are constantly searching for new and innovative ideas. We identify solutions and create environments that enlighten the soul and the mind to the beauty that surrounds us. It is in our interest as professionals to understand the impact design has on the psychological, physical, and economic quality of life for our clients.
This competition is to explore the visual and conceptual art that is Lighting. This residential design competition can focus on any style of lighting. Be as creative as you like, but remember, the basis of all good lighting is not just beauty, itβs also function. Students are required to use the vast selection of fixtures from Cleveland Lighting. The goal of this competition is to recognize and award a forward-thinking approach to lighting.
PROJECT PARAMETER
- The residential space designed should be a minimum of 300 sq. ft. and a maximum of 800 sq. ft.
- You determine the type of space and the functions that take place in it
- Entrant is to determine the context of the space
- Is it a stand-alone space?
- Or part of a larger entity?
- What area of the country is your project located? (city/state)
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Each submission for the Cleveland Lighting Bright Star Student Design Scholarship competition must conform to the following requirements:
- Students submitting projects must be an ASID Ohio North Student Member, in good standing.
- All submissions must include a completed official design competition entry form. No other version of the entry form will be accepted. This form is available for download at www.asidohio.org.
- Entrants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their interior design major. A copy of school transcript is required.
- Submissions from teams of two or more entrants will be disqualified.
Submissions shall consist of up to two 20β x 24β boards that, at a minimum, include the following components:
- Project title
- Project location
- Brief abstract or concept statement (250 word maximum typed, provided separately from board)
- Drawings to best convey your design intent. These may include:
- Two-dimensional plans, elevations, sections renderings, perspectives, and/or sketches of your room, the furniture within it, and lighting plan. (You may also choose to have two separate drawings β one for furnishings and stand alone lighting fixtures such as table/floor lamps, and the other for a separate lighting plan that shows integrated fixtures, i.e. wall sconces, chandeliers, recessed lighting, etc.)
- Images or samples of key furniture pieces, finishes, lighting selections, and material selections. (Images of your selected finishes may be scanned, digitally photographed, or downloaded from the web. These may be formatted, sized, noted, and arranged on your boards at your discretion or placed in a 3-ring binder).
Videos and animations are not permitted as submission materials and will not be considered.
ADDITIONAL TIPS
All submissions will be closely examined to ensure they meet all competition requirements. Failure to clearly illustrate adherence to these requirements may result in disqualification.
Entrant is responsible for the clarity and functionality of the submission. All work must be understood clearly at all levels of detail.
